2014 Conference Information

The 2014 Women Writing the West annual conference marked the organization’s 20th anniversary with record attendance, including several founding members. From the optional pre-conference workshops to the closing high tea, it was a jam-packed schedule. Guest editors, agents and publishers offered industry insight and opportunities for authors to pitch their new works. Conference participants chose from 22 breakout sessions. Winners and finalists in the LAURA Short Story contest were recognized at the Friday luncheon. Authors receiving WILLA awards were honored at the Saturday luncheon and evening banquet. Featured speakers included Susan Wittig Albert, Sandra Dallas, Liz Pelletier, and Joyce Meskis of the Tattered Cover Bookstore. A reception at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum introduced the Anniversary Quilt made by members. A special event was screening of the film, The Cherokee Word for Water. Historic costumes abounded for the final event, a Sunday morning high tea where Corrine Brown brought to life “Five Early Colorado Women Who Made A Difference.”
