In 2018, Women Writing the West head to the Pacific Northwest for the 24th Annual Conference. Registration will begin in spring, 2018 and more information will be posted as it becomes available.

Master Class Workshop: 2-4 p.m. Spend two hours with Krista Rolfzen Soukup, literary publicist and owner of the Blue Cottage Agency, and gain a greater understanding about marketing your book in today’s competitive world.

Roundtable Advance Critique: 2-4 p.m. Submit your first ten manuscript pages in advance and receive critique comments from other participants and one of our guest editors or agents for a group critique session. You will be contacted to select the editor or agent best suited to your genre and given instructions for submitting your pages. Requires advance submission, plus reading and critiquing others’ pages. Intended for those comfortable with and open to receiving critique.

Historic Downtown Tour: Take a wagon ride tour of downtown Walla Walla and some of the area’s historic homes. The tour leaves the hotel at 4:30 p.m. and costs $20 per person.
Marcus Whitman Hotel Tour: Join in a free tour of this historic property, built in the late 1920s. Tour will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the hotel lobby.

WILLA Readings: Kick off the conference with our WILLA Finalists and Winners during an evening of reading from their works.


NEWCOMERS GATHERING: All new WWW members and first-time conference attendees are welcome to the Newcomers Gathering held Friday morning.

BOOK SALE & SIGNING EVENT: Our book sale will be handled by Walla Walla’s Book and Game Bookstore. The bookstore will be open all day Friday and Saturday. The bookstore will be advertised to the general public. The signing event is scheduled for Saturday, 5-6 p.m. prior to the WILLA Banquet and will be held in the bookstore room. Bookstore chair Susan Matley will contact those who indicate an interest in participating (see front of form).

PITCH APPOINTMENTS: A pitch appointment is a ten-minute, one-on-one appointment to pitch your book to an editor or agent or to ask questions of them. Watch the WWW website for details and list of attending editors and agents. You will be contacted to schedule your appointment with an editor/agent for either Friday or Saturday. Contact will be made in the order registrations are received.

RAFFLE: All proceeds support the WILLA Literary Award. Please support by donating. Contact Raffle Coordinator Pam Tartaglio at
BUSINESS MEETING: Plan now to attend the annual WWW Business meeting scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27. A quorum of members is required and necessary, but a special raffle item up for grabs at the meeting will make it worth your while to attend.


Historic Walla Walla: Learn about Walla Walla’s unique past through a visit to Fort Walla Walla Museum Friday, October 26. Tour attendees will eat lunch at a winery and discover details about the Walla Walla Valley’s wine region. After lunch, visit Whitman Mission National Historic Site, the site of the former Whitman Mission at Waiilatpu. See Oregon Trail ruts and learn about the missionaries who settled in the valley before their deaths in 1847.

Historic Pendleton, OR: Once home to 32 saloons and 18 bordellos during its boom days, Pendleton, Oregon, was a wild western town (and still holds onto that reputation with the famed Pendleton Round-Up!). Explore the town’s colorful history through the Pendleton Woolen Mills, Pendleton Underground, Hamley’s western store and more on Sunday, Oct. 28. Transportation and lunch included.

REGISTRATION REFUND DEADLINE: September 8, 2018 (No refunds after this date for any reason. No meal changes after October 1. No guaranteed room rate after September 8, 2018. There is a $20.00 processing fee on all refunds.)

VOLUNTEERS: No conference runs smoothly without a host of volunteers. Please consider volunteering for part of the conference: Registration desk, obtaining sponsors, publicity, book shop, or serving as a moderator.
